Consider an example of how it actually works and how an Internet company apply HTML. In this example, we will be part of a block of text appear in bold.

Let's see how we did: the HTML tag to make text bold. In put in this tag, we tell the browser to read any text that comes from fat.
Following our example text (this text will appear fat), we use the tag to tell the browser to stop doing anything bold.
In geek-speak, we are "opening" tag using the tag, then "close" it with (the slash is a "closing" tag.)
If we wanted to do some of this sentence bold, we would like this:

Who would like to view: Let's just fat last three words
This is exactly how all the HTML code works. At the end of the day, the HTML is nothing more a pile of wrapped text in different types of tags.
